It’s not as if New York City
Burnt down to the ground
Once you drove away
It’s not as if the sun won’t shine
When clouds up above
Wash the blues away

I’m in the living room watching the watergate hearings while my stepfather yells at my mother, launches a glass across the room straight at her head. And I dash upstairs to take cover lean in close to my little record player on the floor, so this is what the volume knob’s for.

We can talk all night, we can talk all day
We can play charades when there is nothing to say
You turn me on to the idea of growing old

And you said: All the money in the world
Won’t buy a bed so big and wide
To guarantee that you won’t accidentally touch me in the night

And you’re sugar and spice and everything nice
You got Monroe hips, your poisoned lips and knives
And you’re sugar and spice and everything nice
You got open wounds in a young boy’s pride

Against Me! - “Bamboo Bones.”
And you have your bamboo bones,
Nervous energy,
Blind ambition,
Skin of your teeth.
Push back, push back, push back,
With every word and every breath.
What god doesn’t give to you,
You’ve got to go and get for yourself.
First with your hands and then with your mouth
A downpour of sweat, damp cotton clouds
I was a fool, you were my friend
We made it happen
You took off your clothes, left on the light
You stood there so brave
You used to be shy

I heard this song today through the Spotify radio while at work organizing archives.
Whatever it is you think you are
you aren’t:
a good friend, unique, well-read
good-looking, or smart.
Well now you know.
Well I hate to be the one to bear such bad news.
I know it hurts to hear
but it’s true.
you don’t mean anything
to anyone but me.
It reminded me of a someone. A boy who has on and off has claimed to love me. This sounds like something he would say, late at night after a few misplaced words turned into a bitter fight. Why do we keep certain people in our lives?
